The Psychology Program Manager has a major role in implementing facility programs focusing on Suicide Prevention.

Major duties include, but are not limited to:

  • The Psychologist Program Manager directs the operations, including allocation of resources of personnel, space and equipment for the Suicide Prevention program at KCVA.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager supports the agency's EEO/Affirmative Action Programs, is knowledgeable in this area and assures that the Suicide Prevention program carries out the full intent of the program.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager also supports and assists in instructing and training staff in safe working practices, occupation health, emergency preparedness and fire protection programs by application of approved standards, regulations, practices and methods.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager is responsible for ensuring that the Suicide Prevention program is compliant with all regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the population served and monitors medical center performance related to population served.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager develops and maintains treatment and documentation standards that meet the expectations and requirements of Joint Commission accreditation.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager performs additional and special assignments that are related to program goals, and the needs of the Suicide Prevention program and clients.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager independently identifies high-risk patients and provides crisis intervention services.
  • Psychologist Program Manager completes suicide risk screens and documents assessments as required by policy.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager completes comprehensive assessments and collaborative safety plans when clinically indicated and provides follow-up appointments for all Veterans upon initiation of the "High Risk for Potential Suicide List" in compliance with VA policy.
  • Psychologist Program Manager provides follow up with Veterans who fail to attend appointments, per local procedures, and consults with Suicide Prevention Coordinators or member of various suicide risk identification or action committee or direct supervisor as needed to ensure the safety and welfare of all Veterans.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager provides wellness/prevention education and facility patient and family support groups as appropriate.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager develops local policy and practice development, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program as prescribed by the program handbook or national directive.
  • Psychologist Program Manager organizes, sets priorities, meets multiple deadlines, and evaluates the Suicide Prevention program.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager collaborates with internal and external partners to further program goals and enhance patient centered care.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager provides the full range of supervisory duties including assignment of work to be performed; performance evaluations; and assistance with selection of staff, training, and recommendation of awards, advancements, and when appropriate, disciplinary action.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager oversees fiscal matters (as assigned by the Mental Health Division) of the functions supervised, forecast resource and equipment needs, and administer the allocated budget.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager as assigned serves on Medical Center or Healthcare System, VISN, and/or National VA committees or task forces. They actively participate in local, state, and national professional organizations. They represent the Medical Center or Healthcare System at professional/program community group/events and committees.
  • The Psychologist Program Manager in responsible for KCVA Suicide Prevention Month activities. The incumbent is responsible for completion of all program evaluations and documentations required by the Medical Center, VISN 15, and VACO. The incumbent is responsible for assuring compliance with accrediting/regulatory bodies.

Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm, with weekend/evenings as needed for duties

Basic Requirements:

  • United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
  • Education: Psychologists must have obtained a doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA), the Psychological Clinical Science Accreditation System (PCSAS), or the Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) at the time the program was completed. The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. For the purpose of meeting this requirement, the term "specialty area" refers to the specific specialty areas recognized by the accrediting body and not to specific job duties that might require special skills. Currently, APA accredits doctoral programs in the specialty areas of clinical psychology, counseling psychology, school psychology, or combinations of two or more of those areas. PCSAS accredits doctoral programs in psychological clinical science. CPA accredits doctoral programs in clinical psychology, counseling psychology, clinical neuropsychology, and school psychology. There are no job assignments in VHA that require the skills of a school psychologist; therefore, an applicant with a degree in the specialty area of school psychology is not eligible for appointment. Strictly for the purpose of determining eligibility for appointment as a psychologist in VHA, there is no distinction between the specialty areas (with the exception of school psychology).OR b. Have a doctoral degree in any area of psychology and, in addition, successfully completed a re-specialization program (including documentation of an approved internship completed as part of the re-specialization program) meeting both of the following conditions: i. The re-specialization program must be completed in an APA or a CPA accredited doctoral program; and ii. The specialty in which the applicant is retrained must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

    Note: The applicant must provide an official transcript and/or certificate documenting the completion of the re-specialization program, which includes completion of an APA or CPA internship.
  • Internship: Completed a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: (1) Have successfully completed a professional psychology internship training program that was accredited by APA or CPA at the time the program was completed and that is consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed. OR (2) New VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided that such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office Program Director for Psychology and the VHA Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern; OR VHA facilities that offered full-time, one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.
  • Licensure: Possess a full, current, and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.
  • English Language Proficiency: Psychologists must be proficient in spoken and written English in accordance with VA Handbook 5005, Part II, chapter 3, section A, paragraph 3j.

May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).

Preferred Experience: Supervisory and leadership experience in a Behavioral Health setting preferred.

Grade Determinations: GS-14 Psychology Program Manager (a) Experience. At least 3 years of experience as a professional psychologist, with at least one year equivalent to the GS-13 level. (b) Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities. In addition to the experience above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs: 1. Ability to organize work, set priorities, delegate tasks, and meet multiple deadlines. 2. Knowledge of and ability to utilize evidence based practices and clinical practice guidelines appropriately and ability to guide staff in using these tools. 3. Ability to deal effectively with individuals or groups representing widely divergent backgrounds, interests, and points of view. 4. Skill in managing and directing the work of others to accomplish program goals and objectives. 5. Ability to translate management goals and objectives into well-coordinated and controlled work operations. 6. Ability to establish and monitor production and performance priorities and standards. 7. Ability to analyze organizational and operational problems and to develop and implement solutions that result in sound operation of the program.

Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the incumbent is frequently required to stand, walk, and bend, climb stairs, and reach with hands and arms. The incumbent must have good manual dexterity and keyboarding skills. The incumbent must be able to communicate efficiently by expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. In addition the incumbent must be able to utilize, view, and read information on computer screens; operate a pager; and operate the required phone equipment. The individual must be able to operate a motor vehicle.

Psychologist duties include personal encounters with patients, visitors, and other employees. These individuals may experience crisis, may become volatile and require de-escalation techniques, as well as extreme patience. Psychologists are required to have excellent communication and interpersonal relationship skills to interact with individuals with a wide variety of medical and psychiatric conditions including handling potentially aggressive behavior.


This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan payment reimbursement program. You must meet specific individual eligibility requirements in accordance with VHA policy and submit your EDRP application within four months of appointment. Approval, award amount (up to $200,000) and eligibility period (one to five years) are determined by the VHA Education Loan Repayment Services program office after complete review of the EDRP application.

Receiving Service Credit or Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Job Summary

The primary purpose of this job is to manage R&D projects that are related to Integer’s strategic initiatives. This role works with internal and external customers and technical resources to ensure an effective execution of the program. This includes responsibility for planning, monitoring, and directing R&D projects and programs of highest scope and complexity, including project budgets, development plans, timelines, associated documentation, or related activities associated with the development and manufacture of products, including successful transfer into the production environment.

Accountabilities & Responsibilities

  • Adheres to Integer’s Values and all safety, environmental, security and quality requirements including, but not limited to: Quality Management Systems (QMS), Safety, Environmental and Security Management Systems, U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, company policies and operating procedures, and other regulatory requirements.
  • Plans, develops, and directs product development project activities from inception through successful product transfer into production. Leads, documents, and facilitates project planning and execution to completion of project tasks.
  • Prepares, monitors, and ensures adherence to master project/development plans, quotes, budgets, specifications, and schedules, providing periodic status reports as required.
  • Primary contact on respective projects. Receives and responds to requests for service or information, participates in status meetings (internal/external) and design reviews, and interfaces with Integer departments, external customers, and suppliers, as necessary.
  • Manages planning and communication with other functions (marketing, quality, regulatory, design assurance, manufacturing, etc.), as applicable, as it relates to project initiatives, policies, etc. Ensures projects and associated issues are effectively resolved while representing the best interests of patients, customers, and Integer.
  • Provides training to Associates within Research & Development, cross-functional teams, or others, as required.
  • Defines and delivers necessary project documents in accordance with Integer requirements and applicable domestic/international regulations or standards. May also evaluate, create, or modify other necessary project-related documentation, such as checklists, procedures, development information/reports, or other records required to support Integer’s development processes.
  • Supports the ongoing implementation and maintenance of an effective design control and product development system, which helps to ensure safe and effective product.
  • Regular and timely attendance.
  • Performs other duties as required.
  • Minimum Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field. Master's degree in business or technical field preferred. Certification from an accredited institution in Project/Program Management preferred.
