Job Description

The Technical Program Manager / Scrum Master's primary responsibility is to effectively and efficiently manage the execution of WellAware’s engineering team’s activities to a plan and schedule working closely with the Head of Product and the CTO. These activities including agile software development, and hardware development (which contains some more traditional waterfall projects), as they relate to releasing high quality products and features on time. Your role will include running daily standups, managing the product backlog, collaborating on requirement documentation, and working with external vendors/stakeholders on project execution. You will be responsible to communicate and collaborate primarily with the engineering and product management teams. The ideal candidate will be able to collaborate with cross-functional teams, demonstrate strong initiative and have the desire to deliver product rapidly and on schedule. You will be part of a fast-growing startup company where you’ll have the opportunity guide the development of our portfolio of products. This role will report to the Head of Product.

San Antonio, TX-based (remote is possible to start, but relocation expected eventually upon conversion to FTE)

Primary Duties And Responsibilities

  • Acts as the “process czar” at WellAware.
  • Facilitates daily stand-up, iteration planning, sprint review, and iteration retrospective
  • Manage the software and hardware engineering development projects and facilitates sprint releases
  • Aids Product Owner/Managers in analyzing product/feature releases on roadmap and ensuring accurate deadlines
  • Create or analyze business requirements documents and project timelines
  • Advises Leadership in time estimating practices and facilitates team estimates
  • Drive team iteration execution, communicates with management and stakeholders any uncontrolled injection of work (changes are evaluated/intentional)
  • Manage project conflicts, challenges and dynamic business requirements to keep operations running at a high performance
  • Work with the Leadership leads to resolve people problems and project roadblocks
  • Able to do post mortem and root cause analysis to help teams continuously improve their practices to ensure maximum productivity
  • Define and implement improvement stories to increase the velocity and quality of the program
  • Implement and support principles, rules and processes as defined by Leadership
  • Proactively identify and eliminate impediments and facilitate flow
  • Maintain team data in Azure DevOps and Aha! to support estimates and execution
  • Presents high level project readouts and demos for senior management
  • Coordinate complex vendor/customer relationships related to special development working closely with the engineering team
  • Leads a structured product release process to ensure successful releases
  • Leads process around executing a QA plan for product releases
  • Manage other special projects as assigned
  • Other duties as needed

Skills And Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 5 years of project management experience and 3 years leading sprints
  • Demonstrable expertise of agile methodology and frameworks like Scrum, Kanban, as well as experience with traditional methodologies like waterfall.
  • Ability to merge agile software development with hardware development processes to create a unified engineering execution process
  • Thrives in a highly collaborative, fast paced environment
  • Expert coach on implementation of agile scrum
  • Able to manage complex multidisciplinary projects with many internal and external dependencies
  • Deep understanding of the fundamentals of iterative and incremental development
  • Strong knowledge of Scrum theory, rules and practices
  • Strong understanding of SDLC and Agile procedures to predict the development teams’needs
  • Solid experience working with Architecture teams to assess and size story/epics
  • Passionate commitment to delivering products on time
  • Comfortable with presenting project readouts to Executive level audience
  • Deep understanding of agile metrics (tasks, backlog tracking, burndown metrics, velocity, user stories etc.) to analyze and improve sprint planning
  • Ability to understand and represent both the business and technology
  • Use of specialized project management and workflow tools
  • Excellent communicator in person, over the phone and through email
  • High degree of curiosity and involvement in understanding user needs.
  • Highly self-motivated, organized
