The IT Investment Solutions Group (ISG) at HOOPP (Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan) is looking for an experienced individual to fill a permanent, fulltime Agile Coach/Delivery Manager role for our Investment Risk & Analytics domain. Candidates must have solid and strong working skills of Scrum and Lean practices under a true Agile mindset (as opposed to a traditional project manager), as well as experienced and evolved leadership and interpersonal skills capable of earning credibility and trust from a highly intellectual and functioning group of individuals.

The Investment Risk & Analytics domain aims to provide fast, effective and trusted investment tools to its many Portfolio Manager, Finance, Risk and business intelligence customers within HOOPP’s Investment Management division. The delivery content involves Trade Signal Calculations, Investment Strategy Analytics (P&L analytics, back testing, etc), Portfolio Construction, Risk Management tools and more. The Agile Coach/Delivery Manager is initially required to support two areas - Delivery (providing process automation, reporting, data, tools) and Platform (providing an End User Platform for analytics).

Team members are looking for guidance and facilitation of a strong, open, collaborative and efficient portfolio structure and delivery framework. Individuals are new to or need a refresher on agile/lean practices, all while looking to reach a high level of technical competency and functional maturity. An Agile Coach/Delivery Manager will be instrumental in facilitating their evolution and growth, in addition fulfilling Scrum Master responsibilities (although the domain may need both Scrum and Lean/Kanban/Other frameworks). The domain’s principles are focused on delivering true customer value in a dynamic and fast-paced environment. What You Will Do

This position will focus on three primary areas:

Agile Framework Leadership

  • Teach, mentor and facilitate the usage of various Agile principles and practices (Scrum, Kanban, Lean etc) that align with the team’s product/service delivery focus (coach at the individual, team and stakeholder level)
  • Pragmatically assess the team’s delivery framework and recommend/facilitate modifications as required that add value to the team
  • Facilitate appropriate framework ceremonies (ex: Daily Scrum, Team Retrospective etc) as Scrum Master and/or Agile Delivery Lead
  • Build communication, relationships and understanding of Agile delivery mechanisms between the team and their delivery counterparts, vendors, customers, stakeholders and sponsors
  • Establish and maintain credibility, trust and respect of the team, stakeholders, sponsors and other colleagues by adding value to the team’s delivery initiatives.
  • Contribute to the evolution of a department wide Agile Delivery practice in collaboration with other Agile Coach/Delivery Leads/Managers (sharing thoughts and advice on practices, measurements and playbooks that will fit and shape HOOPP’s high performance culture and objectives)
  • Coach the Product Owner(s) on “big picture" thinking/vision/strategy enabled through collaboration with team Product Owner counterparts and stakeholders/customers

Solutions Delivery Leadership

  • Collaborate with ISG Portfolio Product Owners and Architects (using ISG’s Scaled Delivery Framework) to communicate and coordinate cross-team initiatives
  • Support the Product Owner with managing stakeholder relationships
  • Facilitate the elicitation, enhancement and reporting of key delivery metrics and measurements (Solutions/Service Delivery Quality, Team Health, Customer Satisfaction) to senior leadership within ISG
  • Analyze metrics and measurements to develop a Continuous Improvement plan for the team to execute
  • Identify and improve delivery framework processes that are inefficient or do not add value
  • Facilitate effective decision-making, communication and collaboration, and help support and sustain team-level and domain-level continuous improvement
  • Partner with the Portfolio PO to help with the evolution of the team’s product owner model, roles & responsibilities in a domain based, multi-team, connected environment;
  • Assist with the creation and maintenance of the team’s solution delivery roadmap and socialize with Business and IT leadership
  • Partner with the Product Owner to ensure regularly scheduled, clear and concise communication of delivery estimates, timeline commitments and status to meet Stakeholder expectations and to avoid unnecessary escalations
  • Provide team with bi-weekly Sprint Run-down reports to support reviews with Stakeholders
  • Protect the team from external disruptions originating from Stakeholders and/or other teams within IT&FS
  • Effectively assist the team with the removal of delivery blockers and impediments in a timely manner

People Leadership

  • Provide direct people leadership for a Portfolio team of 15 to 20 developers and analysts
  • Act as Hiring Lead/Facilitator and partner with Lead Developer and Lead Analyst to ensure hiring process is complete
  • Coordinate activities related to new staff on-boarding
  • Assist with authoring and/or review of Business Case(s) to support changes in team complement (team migration, additions etc)
  • Mentor and support the growth of team leadership roles (specifically the Product Owner and Technical Leadership)
  • Enhance the culture of team health - use team feedback, measurements, judgement and instincts to help the team establish comradery, health and growth
  • Build trust, manage team dynamics and motivate people through regularly scheduled one-on-one discussions and in-the-moment or formal feedback sessions focused on ISG behavioural pillars
  • Assess team member performance regularly (quarterly and annually) through collaboration with Product Owner, Technical Team Lead and ISG’s People and Culture Leaders
  • Manage activities related to staff promotions (including career development plans and training) and the creation and execution performance improvement plans through collaboration with technical and analytical team leads
  • Partner with People and Culture Leaders to socialize and ensure adherence to new or enhanced employees processes and procedures
  • Lead the development of quarterly team objectives and Key Results (OKRs)
  • Manage team absences via HOOPP’s Time and Attendance System

Who You Are

  • 7+ years of experience in a People Management role which involved performance management through a direct reporting structure
  • 3+ years of experience in a Senior Scrum Master and/or Coaching role, leveraging both Scrum and Lean practices in a domain/portfolio structure (preferably a breadth of experience working with different kinds of teams, Product Owners and Stakeholders).
  • 10+ years of experience in IT product/solutions delivery – with technical project or development experience
  • Knowledge of Investment Risk and or Quantitative Analytics
  • 2+ years Past experience with Investments/Capital Markets to help guide conversations with Business Partners and Stakeholders
  • Demonstrable host-leadership experience – measuring, diagnosing and facilitating team improvement, customer satisfaction and value/objective driven achievements
  • Previous experience training, mentoring and evolving teams and individuals in Agile and/or Lean capabilities
  • Experienced at peer-networking, working with domain/portfolio or cross-team level initiatives
  • Previous experience in a hands-on team delivery role (Business Analyst, Developer, DevOps etc)
  • Post-secondary education in a technical discipline (e.g. Business, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering etc.) or equivalent
  • Agile Certification (CSM, CSPO and/or TKP etc)

Preference Will Be Given To Individuals With The Following

  • Involvement in the Agile/Lean Community
  • Experience with various agile-based techniques such as Impact Mapping, Story Mapping, Change Canvases, Team Working Agreements, various effective Retrospective techniques, Feature-Based Teams, scaling techniques etc.
  • Experience with various development/delivery techniques such as Automated Testing, Unit Testing, Test Driven Development, Pair Programming, CI/CD Pipeline etc.
