We are currently accepting applications for the following position, located in Montreal, QC or Toronto, ON: 

Project Services Manager, Capital Management  

Reporting to the Senior Manager Copper Project Services and Capital Management, the successful candidate will be responsible for providing services and systems support across the Metallurgical assets and the North America region. The role is focused on implementing systems to support the Capital Management Governance and Assurance through the deployment of the Capital Management Framework (CMF). 

The role will be accountable for ensuring capital investments into the North America region and Metallurgical assets of the copper business, whether for sustaining or expansionary purposes is appropriately motivated, executed and managed according to established policy, procedure and practices. Regional involvement, coordination and inputs into other regions projects may be required from time to time as directed. Key Responsibilities: 

• Implement and provide input to the Copper Capital Management Framework, including relevant processes, systems and structures for North America region, and Metallurgical assets in line with the standard global approach;

• Provide capital project governance and assurance activities across the respective project portfolio for the Copper business, including interaction with and coordination of the Copper Investment Committee; 

• Ensure effective project reporting is consistent across the project portfolio to increase transparency, assist informed strategic decision making and control processes to enable timely on-budget delivery of project objectives;

• Provide analytics and strategic advice to inform the Copper Portfolio Capital Planning and Program Management requirements of the portfolio, including inputs into portfolio management processes such as projects’ priority rankings and investment decision evaluations; • Conduct detailed project cost estimation and schedule reviews independently from stage-gate assurance across projects either in the relevant region or elsewhere globally; 

• Provide strategic advice and identification of risks, ensuring all the necessary project requirements and standards have been adhered to;

• Work in partnership with the Life of Asset team, Technical and Operational Excellence teams to identify opportunities to codify best practices and new innovations into the appropriate project stages in deliver a step change in operating performance for new businesses or significant business extensions; • Innovation and improvement of project management methodology, practices and build strategies to mitigate risk to projects or improve capital effectiveness;

• Foster a learning and continuous improvement culture to improve all aspects of the business performance, sustainability and business growth, leading the identification and implementation of improvement initiatives, including portfolio opportunities for increased capital efficiency and productivity in the project services function;

• Guides and coaches project personal (internal and external contractors and consultants where appropriate) on the requirements for the implementation of the Copper Capital Management Framework. 

The ideal candidate... 

• Post-Secondary and/or Graduate level education in Engineering, Project management and/or related disciplines;

• 10+ years’ experience in a similar role within the resources/industrial sector;

• Familiar with stage-gate approval process for capital projects;

• Relevant project owner’s teams or engineering service provider experience.  

• Resource experience working with project delivery organisations in North America preferred • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills across all levels of the organization;

• Strong leadership and relationship building skills both including internal and external stakeholders; • Semi-autonomous, self-motivated, highly pro-active and resilient attitude;

• Business, facilitation, analytical, leadership/ management and negotiation capabilities; • Commercial and financial acumen;

• Bilingual candidates are preferred – French and English.
