Job Description

This position will have a project management scope in support of GM GMS together with Lean Material Strategies and Warehouse Management Systems. This position will be responsible for the execution of the overall supply chain strategy for the project. This position is a people leader position and will have direct reports. This position will also work cross functionally with external (Vehicle Systems) and internal resources (Production) and support their needs and requirements. Work involves a considerable amount of initiative in decision making and is accompanied by a high level of independent judgment.

Project Management

Duties Include

Responsible to lead a group engaged in deploying new material flow processes and manage to steady state. Requirements would include effective utilization of personnel, material, machines, and facilities necessary for a flawless execution. Work is performed in the assembly plant with an elevated level of independent judgment.

  • Lead a group of employees, mentor employees, develop and review goals, set direction of team, coverage, and issues, participate in new hire selection, and assess merit raises and promotions
  • Drive efficient material flow understandings for future material movement
  • Develop interfaces, and work with cross functional teams to develop / define common process across whole department and other groups
  • Manage workday activities for the complete project
  • Manage all communication and documentation

Execution Leader

Responsible for launching material flow activities (the physical movement of material from receipt through shipment)

  • Implements, monitors and maintains GMS initiatives
  • Assures compliance to internal control procedures
  • Supports production organization
  • Develops standardized work
  • Maintains clean housekeeping standard and applies 5S
  • Develops subordinates
  • Develops and maintains labor relationships
  • Supervises launch operations
  • Ensures the material personnel are available for hazardous material training
  • Coordinates development of the WMS BPD for floor operations
  • Communicates WMS BPD requirements to staff members
  • Follows up and prepares required documentation for BPD reporting
  • Participates in department/functional Gap Closures Planning Process
  • Documents plans/ideas for future years WMS BPD
  • Involves department Business Planner where appropriate
  • Monitor the scorecard reporting process for input into Gap Closure Planning for current and future years
  • Provides input into budget development based on annual plans
  • Reviews and approves manpower plans (GMOS)


Basic Required

  • Experience managing and prioritizing multiple projects, effective project planning in terms of resources, strategies, cost, and time, with the ability to meet project timelines
  • Experience managing a Supply Chain floor operations team through GMS SLT
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
  • High functional capability with supply chain floor systems - MGO, EPS, PPS, VBIMS, GEPICS, WMS, etc.
  • Strong understanding of supply chain and lean material processes; Logistics (LLP processes), Receiving, Internal Material Flow, Scrap, Obsolescence, etc.
  • Experience with GMS SLT implementation and execution
  • Proficient with the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • High level of analytical ability where problems are complex
  • Knowledge of work measurement and work standards
  • Knowledge of basic manufacturing and assembly processes
  • Demonstrated technical and professional skills in job-related area required
  • Appropriate interpersonal styles and communication methods to work effectively with business partners to meet mutual goals required
  • Establishes a course of action to accomplish completion of the job and/or project
  • Coordinates input from internal/external customers to better understand customer needs and/or perceptions
  • Keeps abreast of current product developments and trends in areas of expertise
  • Actively identifies new areas for learning and takes advantage of learning opportunities

Basic preferred

  • Project Management experience in a Manufacturing environment
  • Multi plant and/or multi-functional experience
  • Prior experience with varied Supply Chain office and floor assignments
  • Experience/knowledge of GM Global Manufacturing Systems (GMS)
  • Knowledge of Continuous Improvement Process (CIP)


  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management or another Business-related field (Industrial Engineering) with 3-5 years of Supply Chain / Lean Material Strategies / Warehouse Management Systems
