We are currently looking for Rock Stars that want to be part of a growing IT Team. Our IT ambition is to transform National Grid into the leader of the digital energy future. This person must be a self-starter, energetic and have a passion for Project Management. Projects support US Gas business and NY jurisdiction. Projects can be under 1 MM to well over 10 MM. The role could transform into an Agile team role in the future.

Key Accountabilities

The Senior Project Manager is accountable for working closely with the business and technology to ensure the success of all projects/programs under their supervision. Project manager’s work with the business partners to first align on the business case and then plans, executes, and delivers all projects/programs on time, on budget, and within scope in accordance with business priorities. Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Lead and drive internal cross functional teams to meet project/program deliverables.
  • Manage technical issues, risks and priorities. Perform risk assessment and implement risk mitigation plans.
  • Resolve issues and solve problems throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Create project schedules to identify when each task will be done and by whom. Manage project schedules and lead enforcement of project deadlines in response to the client requirements.
  • Partner with business sponsors to define success metrics and criteria.
  • Proactively identifying resource constraints and working with personnel managers on creative solutions. Manage the unexpected gracefully and effectively.
  • Lead weekly project meetings with technology team providing transparency to task status and identifying issues.
  • Possibly build, lead, and coach multiple project teams throughout project lifecycles.
  • Proactively communicate and collaborate with external and internal customers to analyse needs and requirements.
  • Implementation of projects using the Software Development Lifecycle model.
  • Ensure project documents are complete, current, and stored appropriately.
  • Serve as the conduit and act as liaison between the customers (internal and external), software development team and technical teams. Maintain key relationships with project sponsors to forecast resource needs and communicate those needs to management.
  • Ensure effective cross-functional teamwork among project team members including both internal and external business, IT and vendors.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement and make constructive suggestions for change, work beyond the IT department to further optimize and improve existing process.
  • Build a knowledge base of project types to draw from to optimize processes.
  • Manage software development release cycle; coordinating resources, creating documentation and running release events.
  • Demonstrates the Valued Business Partner capabilities and behaviours in all interactions with IT colleagues, vendors and business stakeholders
  • Monitor project schedule and scope to ensure both remain on track. Initiate and implement appropriate actions. Proactively engage in both quality assurance and risk management activities to ensure project deliverables are met according to IT and client requirements.
  • Meet financial performance targets for the assigned projects and proactively manage change control process both internally and externally.
  • Accountable for budget across assigned project(s) including monthly forecasting and variance reporting. Collaborate with finance to initiate monthly invoicing and reconciliation.
  • Contribute to development and management of Program Delivery metrics (On time and On Budget)
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications

  • BS in a relevant discipline or, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Seven (7) to fifteen (15) years of professional experience demonstrating responsibility for participating in and/or managing large scale software programs.
  • Seven (7)+ years of project management or program leadership experience the ability to communicate and work effectively with internal and external customers at all organizational levels.
  • Three (3) to five (5) year experience in managing projects using agile methodology and also oversight to external vendors.
  • Relevant industry certification (e.g. PMP, SAFe, CSM) desirable. Experience with Agile transformation would be beneficial
  • Experience with Utility industry and National Grid preferred
  • Experience building and managing a project schedule in Microsoft Project or similar project management tool utilizing data-based decision-making (GANTT charts, JIRA, Visio, Confluence etc.)
  • Ability to lead a large scale projects, including development of plans for scope, timeline, budget, issue management, and managing change.
  • Experience coordinating procurement events (RFP/RFI) and developing statements of work.
  • Experience managing multiple vendors to deliver the full scope of projects/programs.
  • Experience conducting and leading team meetings to manage the schedule, identify risks and review project deliverables. Comfortable with frequent changes or unpredictability.
  • Good customer focus, attitude and excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to manage complex and varied interpersonal relationships to successfully complete projects.
  • Excellent ability to organize time and information to successfully complete projects. Ability to lead and model behaviours for other team members. Experience with both waterfall and agile project management.
  • IT experience should be mostly on the application development space and some infrastructure experience is also good.
  • PM needs to be motivated, self- starter, takes initiative, has good communication skills and who can thrive in any environment

National Grid is hiring a Lead Program Manager of Labor and Employee Relations. The role will be located in our Buffalo, NY office.

Job Purpose

Responsible for managing the labor and employee relations function and processes for the Western Region of Upstate New York by acting as the representative of the Company in discussions with the local union.

The successful candidate must reside in or proximal to Buffalo, New York. This is not a remote position and the candidate will be required to travel frequently within the Western New York region.

Key Accountabilities

  • Provide advice and technical expertise on labor relations matters to operations management to ensure that company and contractual standards are applied consistently and correctly
  • Work with business units to ensure that business needs and goals are supported by and in compliance with labor relations guidance
  • Work with business units to translate labor relations objectives into well-defined requirements with clearly defined business cases in order to support change and innovation
  • Manage employee complaints and grievances through the relevant procedures to maintain compliance and manage risk for the Company
  • Prepare cases for presentation at hearings and proceedings to support the achievement of successful outcomes
  • Assist with contract negotiations and agreements in support of the company’s goals

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Labor Relations, Human Resource Management, or a business-related area
  • Advanced degree/study a plus
  • A minimum of 8 years of labor relations experience in an operations, logistics or manufacturing environment
  • Experience interpreting and managing 2+ different collective bargaining agreements
  • Experience managing disciplinary processes
  • Experience managing a grievance procedure from step 1 through arbitration
  • Strong investigatory experience
  • Thorough knowledge of practices, principles and applications pertaining to the labor relations profession
  • Negotiation experience including proposal development/analysis, and preparation for bargaining
  • Knowledge of current trends in Human Resource management and applicable Federal and State regulations
  • In-depth knowledge of labor law, equal employment and affirmative action programs, ADA, FMLA, FSLA, etc.
  • Operational experience including supervisory experience of unionized employees is a plus
  • Valid driver's license with a safe driving history

Job Purpose

The WD&RM Project Manager is responsible for the operational efficiency and excellence of select portfolios of work within the Electric Distribution Processes. As a WD&RM Project Manager Distribution Line portfolio you will provide resource planning, project management and oversight to ensure the work is delivered on time, within budget and mandated targets are met. The WD&RM Project Manager builds internal and external relationships to improve customer satisfaction while providing visibility to the work plans. The WD&RM Project Manager enables the cost-effective planning and delivery of Electric Distribution projects, programs and blankets to achieve overall portfolio performance targets within the New York jurisdiction.

Key Accountabilities

  • Track, report, update and forecast project, program, or blanket financials and milestones each month.
  • Keep internal and external departments informed of project requirements and schedules using appropriate communication methods including holding monthly meetings.
  • Collaborate with Planning and Asset Management to create design scopes for the assigned programs and specific projects based on the Company’s strategy.
  • Identify risks to project delivery including major permit issues or restrictions, logistical problems, material issues, and cost constraints or contractual problems and recommend appropriate action.
  • Challenge existing processes and continuously seek ways to do things better in order to drive greater efficiencies for the business.
  • Build and maintain a rolling 18-month work plan for the specific portfolio in Primavera 6.
  • Manage current year work plans and implement resource strategies to meet regulatory, budgetary, and jurisdictional goals for the New York distribution electric portfolio.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration within WD&RM and internal stakeholders.
  • Produce high level and detailed forecasting models and work schedules to support senior management in defining resource planning strategies.
  • Analyze resource, and financial forecasts for assigned projects and portfolio using project management software (Primavera P6) for optimal work plan delivery.
  • Effectively support Operations and company initiatives as required.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree; Minimum of 3 years of project and/or program management experience.

Project Management experience desirable.

Experience with Primavera (P6) desirable.

Familiar with distribution line engineering, design, permitting, construction, and closeout activities.

National Grid is Hiring a Lead Project Manager NY Gas Project Management in our Melville, NY location.

Job Purpose

Responsible and accountable for managing a large portfolio ($50MM - $100MM USD) of complex capital projects in the Downstate NY territory; which will allow for the safe and reliable delivery of natural gas to existing and future customers. Such projects include, transmission pipelines, distribution main, public works, peak-shaving facilities (LNG), regulator/take stations, bridge/railroad/water crossings, and other special capital projects. The Lead Project Manager is responsible for careful stewardship and practical management throughout the entire project lifecycle; including the planning, delivery, management, and governance of assigned projects in accordance with the National Grid Capital Delivery Initiative model. High visibility role that involves corresponding with senior staff, executive leadership and external stakeholders; including elected officials and government regulatory authorities.

Key Accountabilities

  • Perform Project Management functions to ensure the successful completion of capital construction projects, including:
  • Develop, gain necessary approval and control of project scope, project budget, schedule, contract documents and resource plan; quality and schedule parameters / risk management;
  • Ensure timely project completion through project scheduling, expediting of material deliveries and the management of material and documents submittals/approvals per company standards and policy.
  • Compliance with environmental, safety and National Grid standards and policies; acquisition of required permits, licenses and land rights;
  • Coordinates and provides direction for the accounting, cost, forecast and construction functions as they relate to the completion of the project.
  • Possess working knowledge of all project plans, specifications, contract, contractors, purchase orders, project correspondences, permits, shop drawings, submittals and all project related documents.
  • Negotiate, issue and execute change orders (proposals) to design team, contractors and others.
  • Prepare and issue progress reports on regular basis to team members and stakeholders.
  • Manage project closeout process for project acceptance.
  • Understands working with a union environment.
  • Drive efficiencies across projects for on-schedule, on budget delivery in alignment with company values, safety objectives and quality standards.

  • Knowledge of gas system operations, gas industry codes/regulations, preferred.
